Savannah Music Festival LIVE 1604 – Mozart & Purcell
On this episode, we’ll hear two performances from the 2023 festival during the Philip Dukes & Friends chamber music series, along with a 2016 festival concert featuring the ensemble L’arte del mondo with Lorenza Boranni on violin. The bulk of the program will focus on the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, but we’ll begin with a work from the middle Baroque period by English composer Henry Purcell. Purcell’s Chaconne in G minor, Z. 730 was composed for an ensemble of viols, a bowed stringed instrument with frets that is typically held vertically like a cello or double bass. This performance features an arrangement by Waldo Lyman for string quartet in which the cello introduces the foundational bass figure.
