Savannah Music Festival LIVE 1404 – Joey DeFrancesco & the People

The use of the organ in jazz was shuffled to the side of the stage beginning in the late 1960s when lightweight electric keyboards and synthesizers became standard operating equipment. Joey DeFrancesco saw this development as an unfair disengagement. By advocating for a reevaluation of the vintage Hammond B-3 organ and Leslie tone cabinet, he brought back to the attention of record producers and club owners the still vital sound of one of the music’s lesser celebrated instruments. On this episode, we listen to highlights from Joey DeFrancesco & the People’s 2017 performance on a co-bill with the Ike Stubblefield Trio.
