Savannah Music Festival LIVE 914 – Musical Friendships

In the mid-1870s when Johannes Brahms served on the jury of the Austrian state stipendium, he encountered a submission from an obscure Czech composer whose mastery and talent overwhelmed him. Brahms immediately became a huge supporter of Antonin Dvorák, and also arranged for some of Dvorák’s work to be given to his own publisher. The friendship between the two composers is a relationship that is nearly unparalleled in musical history, reminding us of the generosity and mentorship that takes place between dynamic musical forces. In this episode we listen to Daniel Hope & Friends perform Dvorák’s Terzetto in C Major, Op. 74 alongside Brahms’ Piano Quintet in F Major, Op. 34, both from the 2016 Savannah Music Festival.
