Savannah Music Festival LIVE 908 – Monty Alexander Trio

The very finest musicians always seem to effortlessly deliver jazz standards and originals to audiences, making it clear that a great artist can also be an entertainer. Such is the case with the 70-year old Jamaican pianist Monty Alexander, who grew up in Kingston, where performances by Louis Armstrong and Nat King Cole left a strong impression on him as a youngster. In March of 2016, we presented the Monty Alexander Trio on a bill with the young jazz singer Cecile McLorin Salvant. Monty brought Hasan Shukur on bass and Jason Brown on drums and showed the audience what swinging is all about.
