Savannah Music Festival LIVE 413 – Nikolai Lugansky
Original air date: week of July 10, 2011
Players who win piano competitions don’t always become great pianists, but now in his late 30s, Nikolai Lugansky has all the makings of a modern virtuoso. Born in Moscow in April of 1972 to a couple of research scientists, Mr. Lugansky was just five years old when his innate musicality first appeared. He went to a neighbor’s home, sat down at the piano, and played a Beethoven sonata from memory (having learned the music by ear). Tune in for Lugansky’s 2011 recital in the rotunda at the Telfair Academy during the Savannah Music Festival.
