DESCRIPTION:Grammy-nominated artists Alfredo Rodriguez and Pedrito Martínez first worked together on Rodriguez’s 2012 release The Invasion Parade. Since that initial recording session\, they have had the rare occasion to perform together as a duo\, leaving audiences completely mesmerized by their fearless and virtuosic playing. Each artist brings a different approach to the collaboration. A protégé of Quincy Jones\, who took him under his wing when he defected to the US in 2009\, Rodriguez was schooled in the rigorous classical conservatories of Havana. His riveting artistry is informed as much by Bach and Stravinsky as it is by his Afro-Cuban and jazz roots. With poetic lyricism and a rich\, emotive voice\, she explores themes of identity\, history\, and social justice. She has released multiple critically acclaimed albums and has performed at festivals and venues worldwide. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMary Rose Brown is a singer-songwriter blending ’70s rock\, jazz\, Americana\, and dance-pop. She left the traditional college path to pursue music full-time in Savannah\, GA. Her upcoming debut album Anastasia explores ambition\, identity\, and the cost of chasing fame. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGreg Fortune is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist blending blues\, R&B\, and jazz into a soulful sound. Originally from Arizona and now based in Atlanta\, he has released three full-length albums and performed extensively\, including a residency at Hard Rock Cafe. He recently represented Atlanta at the 2024 International Blues Challenge. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKyrin Fox is a singer-songwriter from Savannah\, GA\, specializing in indie folk music with acoustic guitar. She is currently pursuing a B.F.A. in Sound Design with a Minor in Music Composition at the Savannah College of Art and Design. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBennett Fraelle has performed everywhere from living rooms to concert halls\, blending classical\, folk\, and rock influences. Inspired by the techniques of Leo Kottke and the songwriting of Lennon and McCartney\, he creates music with one goal in mind: connecting with his audience. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSusanna Kennedy grew up immersed in music\, from singing in church choirs to playing classical violin. Her indie folk sound is marked by emotionally evocative melodies and lyrics. She is currently recording her debut EP at Back Room Records\, set for release later this year. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLaiken Love is a powerhouse vocalist and leader of Laiken Love & Fellowship of Love\, setting the standard for live entertainment in Savannah since 2014. She has performed at major festivals and corporate events\, worked as a session singer\, and collaborates with Savannah Music Festival as a Musical Explorers host. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVikram Perry is a Savannah-based musician with a B.A. in Music from Oberlin College. He works as a choral scholar at the Cathedral Basilica of St. John\, a house musician for Front Porch Improv\, and a music director for local theater. He explores genres from folk and Americana to Indian classical and bluegrass. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAndrew Sovine is a Nashville-born multi-instrumentalist\, record producer\, and composer whose work—most notably with Ashley McBryde—has earned multiple Grammy nominations. He owns and operates The Back Room Record Studio in Savannah\, GA\, and occasionally plays loud music with friends. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFunding for community impact programming is provided by the Wall Lynch Family.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
DESCRIPTION:A Jason Isbell record always lands like a decoder ring in the ears and hearts of his audience\, a soundtrack to his world and magically to theirs\, too. Weathervanes carries the same revelatory power. This is a storyteller at the peak of his craft\, observing his fellow wanderers\, looking inside and trying to understand\, reducing a universe to four minutes. He shrinks life small enough to name the fear and then strip it away\, helping his listeners make sense of how two plus two stops equaling four once you reach a certain age—and carry a certain amount of scars. \n\n\n\n“There is something about boundaries on this record\,” Isbell says. “As you mature\, you still attempt to keep the ability to love somebody fully and completely while you’re growing into an adult and learning how to love yourself.” \n\n\n\nWeathervanes is a collection of grown-up songs: Songs about adult love\, about change\, about the danger of nostalgia and the interrogation of myths\, about cruelty and regret and redemption. Life and death songs played for and by grown ass people. Some will make you cry alone in your car and others will make you sing along with thousands of strangers in a big summer pavilion\, united in the great miracle of being alive. The record features the rolling thunder of Isbell’s fearsome 400 Unit\, who’ve earned a place in the rock ‘n’ roll cosmos alongside the greatest backing ensembles\, as powerful and essential to the storytelling as The E Street Band or the Wailers. \n\n\n\nThey make a big noise\, as Isbell puts it\, and he feels so comfortable letting them be a main prism through which much of the world hears his art. He can be private but with them behind him he transforms\, and there is a version of himself that can only exist in their presence. When he plays a solo show\, he is in charge of the entire complicated juggle. On stage with the 400 Unit\, he can be a guitar hero when he wants\, and a conductor when he wants\, and a smiling fan of the majesty of his bandmates when he wants to hang back and listen to the sound. \n\n\n\nThe roots of this record go back into the isolation of the pandemic and to Isbell’s recent time on the set as an actor on Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. There were guitars in his trailer and in his rented house and a lot of time to sit and think. The melancholy yet soaring track “King of Oklahoma” was written there. Isbell also watched the great director work\, saw the relationship between a clear vision and its execution\, and perhaps most important\, saw how even someone as decorated as Scorsese sought out and used his co-workers’ opinions. \n\n\n\n“It definitely helped when I got into the studio\,” Isbell says. “I had this reinvigorated sense of collaboration. You can have an idea and you can execute it and not compromise — and still listen to the other people in the room.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease note: this event has been rescheduled from the originally scheduled date and time. But they take pride in being ambassadors of their genre\, and the group has brought their music from rural bluegrass festival stages to the rock clubs of Europe\, with stunning results.

Classically trained as a mezzo-soprano\, Olatuja earned degrees from the University of Missouri and Manhattan School of Music\, debuting at Carnegie Hall and Opera Memphis. She gained national attention singing at President Obama’s 2013 Inauguration and later collaborated with artists like Christian McBride\, Gregory Porter\, Billy Childs\, and Dianne Reeves. A dedicated educator and certified life coach\, Olatuja founded the Vocal Breakthrough Academy\, and her live performances showcase her dynamic artistry and global musical vision. This is her SMF debut. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChristian Sands is a celebrated jazz pianist known for his mastery of post-bop and swing traditions. A protégé of the late Billy Taylor\, he began playing piano at age three and composing by five. After studying at the Manhattan School of Music\, Sands gained early acclaim through Grammy Award performances and appearances at the Kennedy Center. He was also a regular participant in the Jazz in July music camp at the University of Massachusetts Amherst\, where he first met Taylor. He released his debut album Footprints\, at 12 and has played with luminaries such as Lou Donaldson\, Kirk Whalum\, Phil Woods\, James Moody\, and Wycliffe Gordon\, among many others. DESCRIPTION:Mike Marshall is one of the world’s most accomplished and versatile string instrumentalists and a three-time Grammy nominee. At 19\, he joined the David Grisman Quintet and has since produced over 40 recordings while collaborating with Bela Fleck\, Edgar Meyer\, and Chris Thile. Deeply committed to education\, Mike directed the Acoustic Music Seminar at SMF and teaches globally. With his wife\, German mandolinist Caterina Lichtenberg\, he co-founded the Mandolin World Retreats and continues to tour internationally\, inspiring musicians worldwide. \n\n\n\nBorn in Piracicaba\, Brazil\, Alessandro Penezzi is one of the great virtuosos of Brazilian guitar. He graduated in Popular Music from Unicamp with a specialization in Creative Processes from Faculdade Souza Lima\, and has been teaching courses\, workshops\, and seminars at various music festivals in Brazil and abroad. Penezzi is a multi-instrumentalist and prolific composer and has toured extensively worldwide. He plays the seven-string guitar\, tenor guitar\, cavaquinho\, mandolin and flute\, and has received numerous honors and nominations for his performances as an instrumentalist and composer. DESCRIPTION:“To be moving is better than to be standing still\,” Richard Thompson says\, and Richard Thompson should know. The influential singer-songwriter and virtuosic guitarist has been on a singular musical journey for over half a century\, from his days in the ‘60s as a pioneer of British folk rock with Fairport Convention\, to his seminal ‘70s duo work with Linda Thompson\, to the exploratory\, deeply emotional music of the solo career that has been his primary concern ever since. Along the way he has been touted as one of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time by Rolling Stone\, covered by everyone from Robert Plant\, R.E.M. and David Byrne to Sleater-Kinney\, Bonnie Raitt\, Del McCoury Band and Emmylou Harris\, bestowed with the Ivor Novello Award for songwriting\, and even appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire by the late Queen Elizabeth II. SUMMARY:Awake\, My Soul: The Story of the Sacred Harp\, Screening and Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Over the course of 7 years\, Atlanta filmmakers/ Sacred Harp singers\, Matt & Erica Hinton\, created Awake\, My Soul: The Story of the Sacred Harp\, the first feature documentary to explore the history\, music\, and traditions of Sacred Harp singing\, the oldest distinctively American music. This haunting music has survived over 200 years tucked away from sight in the rural deep South\, where Sacred Harp singers begin each song by intoning syllables which are represented by each “shapenote” in their hymnal: fa\, sol\, la\, and mi (triangle\, oval\, square and diamond). To the casual observer\, it is some foreign\, unintelligible language\, but to these Sacred Harp singers\, it is the key that unlocks mysteries: songs of both beauty and sorrow\, of life and of death\, songs that cause feet to stomp and tears to flow\, often at the same time.  \n\n\n\nAwake\, My Soul aired nationwide on PBS in 2008 and was been featured in TIME\, Paste Magazine\, The New York Times\, Pitchfork\, SPIN and on NPR. \n\n\n\nAwake\, My Soul\, the 2025 Revision\, is the result of the long-term desire to make the film available again for a new generation. “The original film was released at precisely the best and worst time\,” according to co-director/ editor\, Matt Hinton. “It was the best time because there was still a strong monoculture: if a film aired on PBS\, lots of people saw it. It was also a period of physical media\, so we sold tons of DVDs. But on the other hand\, it was the worst time to have made a film– from the time we began production to the end of post-production\, the culture was moving from standard definition to high definition\, so within a year of its release\, very many people owned high definition TVs. Nothing makes a standard definition film look ‘standard’ like high definition. As a result\, the Hintons spent much of 2025 remastering and re-editing Awake\, My Soul. The 2025 Revision is now in hi-definition\, with a new sound mix and over 10 minutes of material not previously seen.” \n\n\n\nThis screening to be followed by a Q&A with filmmakers\, Matt & Erica Hinton. The Hintons are longtime Sacred Harp singers who have taught Sacred Harp singing schools around the country. Matt composed the song “Clayton” which was included in the 2025 Revision of the Sacred Harp songbook. DESCRIPTION:Pat Metheny is a groundbreaking jazz guitarist and composer. He started playing trumpet when he was eight\, then switched to guitar at 12\, and quickly gained recognition in Kansas City by the time he was 15. His 1975 debut album\, Bright Size Life\, redefined jazz guitar for a new generation. Metheny’s career spans collaborations with legends like Gary Burton\, Ornette Coleman\, and David Bowie. As a music pioneer\, he’s developed custom instruments and embraced new technologies over the course of his career. With 20 Grammys and numerous honors\, including the NEA Jazz Master title\, Metheny continues to be a leading figure in jazz and music education.
