Savannah Music Festival Education Manager Lane Huerta talks with WSAV’S Kim Gusby about Musical Explorers, the Explorer Pass program and more on this segment which was broadcast live on August 31, 2026.

This week, Savannah Music Festival will conduct professional development days for teachers that will be using the 2026 Musical Explorers curriculum in their classrooms. Thank you to our friends at WSAV for spreading the word about this vital, exciting program that opens up the world of music to Savannah’s K-2 students.

Developed in partnership with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, Musical Explorers connects elementary school students with diverse musical communities through both in-person and digital learning platforms. This tuition-free program fosters foundational musical skills by instructing students in multicultural repertoire and encouraging reflection on their own communities. Following a bi-annual curriculum that examines three distinct musical genres per semester, students participate in live and virtual interactive concerts, offering them the opportunity to engage directly with the professional musicians who guide their cultural and educational journey throughout the Georgia Lowcountry and beyond.
