Nathan Williams’ command of the piano accordion has made him one of the most admired players on the zydeco scene. Growing up in a Creole-speaking home in St. Martinville, Louisiana, Williams eagerly sought out the music of zydeco pioneers like Clifton Chenier and Buckwheat Zydeco. His dedication to the genre soon blossomed into an illustrious career, encompassing over 10 albums and spanning three decades. Williams’ band, The Zydeco Cha Chas, are an expression of his South Louisiana family. Nathan’s brother, Dennis Paul Williams, brings his jazz-influenced guitar chops to the group, while son Nathan Williams Jr. plays the keyboard and cousin Mark Williams joins on rubboard. Rounding out the Cha Chas is the exceptional rhythm section of bassist Paul Newman and drummer Herman ‘Rat’ Brown, who held the drum chair with Buckwheat Zydeco for many years. Returning to Savannah after their SMF debut in 2012, Nathan & The Zydeco Cha Chas will turn the Morris Center into a lively dance hall with their infectious Louisiana boogie!
