Featuring five jazz combos and two melodica ensembles, students in Savannah’s only free after-school jazz program will present a program featuring a diverse selection of music from the jazz tradition. Repertoire will include traditional New Orleans tunes and the music of early jazz composers such as Lovie Austin and Fats Waller, as well as songs from mid-century jazz giants like John Coltrane and Mary Lou Williams. Students have spent the fall in weekly rehearsals and lessons learning about jazz history, style and performance, as well as honing their individual instrumental skills. SMF Jazz Academy accepts students from all levels, so please join us in celebrating our students as they begin their journey into this amazing music!
