Renowned singer-songwriter and sage Rodney Crowell, whose astute commentary helped propel the 2019 Ken Burns documentary, Country Music, last appeared at the Savannah Music Festival in 2013 with longtime collaborator Emmylou Harris at the Johnny Mercer Theatre. A protégé of Guy Clark and Mickey Newbury, and bandmate of Vince Gill and Tony Brown in The Notorious Cherry Bombs, Crowell was recognized in 2006 by the Americana Music Association with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting. The Houston-born, Nashville-based musician’s 2019 recording, Texas, features an all-star lineup that includes Willie Nelson, Lee Ann Womack, Lyle Lovett and Ringo Starr.
“There’s no doubt that Crowell was an architect of Americana as we know it.”
