Robbie Fulks is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer and songwriter whose early solo work helped define the alt-country movement that began in the 1990s. Artists who have covered his songs include Sam Bush, Kelly Hogan, Andrew Bird, Mollie O’Brien, Rosie Flores, John Cowan and the Old 97s. As an instrumentalist, Fulks has accompanied artists as diverse as Irish fiddler Liz Carroll, New Orleans pianist Dr. John and jazz violinist Jenny Scheinman, with whom he performs in Kannapolis: A Moving Portrait on April 11. He is joined by Robbie Gjersoe, an accomplished multi-instrumentalist who first appeared at SMF in 2011 with The Flatlanders.
