Born into an extended family of musicians in Dublin, John Doyle honed his signature left-hand finger picking style on the guitar at a young age. His powerful playing later provided the signature rhythmic backbone for Irish-American supergroup Solas. The ensemble took the folk and Celtic music worlds by storm, performing to sold-out audiences across the globe. Since then, Doyle has continued to perfect his craft on the road and in the studio, collaborating with some of the most revered names in the genre including Heidi Talbot, Tim O’Brien and fellow Solas founder Karan Casey, and earning a Grammy nomination for his work with fiddler Liz Carroll in 2010. He kicks off SMF 2019 with a solo lunchtime set at the Charles H. Morris Center.
