SMF Jazz Academy Assistant

Location: Savannah, Georgia
Position Type: Contracted Part-Time Position
Reports to: SMF Jazz Academy Manager

The Savannah Music Festival seeks a contracted part-time Assistant for SMF Jazz Academy (SMFJA), a new after-school music program operating Monday-Friday during after-school hours at the School of Humanities at Juliette Gordon Low Elementary. This position is 3-4 days a week from 3pm – 7pm, while SMF Jazz Academy is in session.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Oversee arrival and dismissal of SMFJA students
• Maintain and update individual student schedules, including 21st Century students’ schedules and jazz instructional time
• Empower students by encouraging a focused learning environment
• Assist with snack distribution, clean-up, room set-up and break-down
• Establish smooth operation of program’s scheduling with Artist Instructor lessons, transitions between SMFJA classes and academic activities, and/or early student dismissals
• Communicate with parents as necessary and in coordination with SMFJA Manager
• Provide social media content to SMF Marketing Associate
• Learn, uphold, and represent SMFJA vision and mission

Required Knowledge & Skills:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with people from a variety of backgrounds
• Excellent organization skills and ability to keep track of program materials and complex student schedules
• Ability to maintain calm and professional demeanor when presented with challenging situations
• Ability to maintain quality relationships with all SMF Jazz Academy staff, students, students’ families, elementary school staff, and SMF donors

Preferred Knowledge & Skills:

• Experience with Google Suite
• Knowledge of the arts & music performance operations is a plus
• Experience working with underserved communities and/or Title I Schools a plus

Terms of Employment:

• Criminal background and sex offender registry check required
• Position is funding dependent
• Candidate should have access to reliable transportation
• This position pays $10/hour

Contract position dates: February 10 (or earliest start date) – May 8, 2020.
