2008 SMF James McMullan Poster

Internationally acclaimed illustrator James McMullan was commissioned to create artwork for our 2008 Festival. Mr. McMullan is best known for his posters for Lincoln Center Theater, having created more than 40 posters for 35 different plays since 1987 that have defined the sensibility of that institution and the essence of the works it has presented. The grandson of Anglican missionaries from Ireland, Mr. McMullan was born in Tsingtao, China in 1934 and spent the years of World War II in school in India. He came to the United States when he was 17, where he attended the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, and he has taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York City since 1969. His drawings have been seen in numerous publications including Esquire, Sports Illustrated, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Fortune, and The New York Times, and he has published several books of his work.
