Romance from Brazil: Gabriel Grossi & Daniel Santiago

March 20, 2008 12:30 PM

Series: Echoes of Iberia

This remarkable Brazilian duo opens this year's festival at our newest venue, the Charles H. Morris Center.

Gabriel Grossi is a virtuoso harmonica player, fluent in all styles associated with Brazilian music. His command of the chromatic harmonica results in inventive phrasing, speedy, effortless runs and definite contributions to pushing the limits of the instrument.

The fluid fingerstyle playing of Daniel Santiago contains equal parts complexity and accessibility. Using Brazilian music and rhythms as a base, Santiago introduces memorable melodic themes then seamlessly launches into nimble improvisations. "Santiago's stunning fretwork (is) cascading free flowing and ever shifting." -Jazziz
