Series: Divine Divas

Before turning 30, the Juilliard-trained soprano and actress Audra McDonald became the first performer in history to win Tony Awards for her first three major Broadway roles. Critics hailed her as the next Broadway diva, with musical talents comparable to stage greats Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland, and Julie Andrews. McDonald's success is more striking because she is perhaps the first African American to become a superstar in musicals. In addition to her Broadway, film, and television credits, her two solo albums have been critical and commercial successes. Her luscious soprano voice is staunchly reinforced by her passion for dramatic truth-telling in her Savannah debut.

"There are not many musical-theater performers who can carry off a solo evening of song at Carnegie Hall...You may now add Audra McDonald to that illustrious list." - Associated Press
