Bowling Green, OH (Violin)
Grant Flick, 17, has been playing the violin for six years now, and is influenced by such musicians as Darol Anger, Stephane Grappelli, Tammy Rogers King, Don Stiernberg, Frank Vignola. If Grant could meet any musician, living or dead, it would be Django Reinhardt. He says, “His influence can be seen in many different musical contexts today, and his phrasing is incredibly tasteful. His sense of swing was also impeccable. I think it would be interesting to observe how he solos and grooves so effectively.”
Grant’s happiest musical experience was coming to AMS in 2015. He explains, “I learned so much, met many new friends, and I grew musically and personally by attending.” Grant values musicians who have fun playing music with others, and are willing to take chances. His advice for younger musicians is, “Listen to as many recordings as possible, jam with other musicians, and have fun!” At AMS 2016, Grant is most looking forward to learning from the instructors, masterclasses, the AMS participants, and creating more musical friendships!
