Los Angelas, CA (Guitar)
Ethan Sherman, 22, is a recent graduate of the Thornton School of Music at University of Southern California, where he focused on Studio/Jazz Guitar. He has been playing the guitar since he was 5 years old. Ethan currently has numerous musical influences, including Paul Bley, Sam Amidon, Blake Mils, Jay Bellerose, and Thelonious Monk. If he could meet any musician, living or dead, Ethan would meet Ornette Coleman, or Chris Thile. He says, “they seem like great people to have quality conversations with.”
Ethan’s happiest musical memory as a player was playing fiddle tunes with Julian Lage and Chris Eldridge at the Fretboard Summit festival in 2015. As a listener, it was seeing Bill Frisell at the Village Vanguard in 2014. In other musicians, Ethan values openness, intention, depth, directness and focus. His advice for younger musicians is, “Remember to pay attention. Also- this is from Jim Hall- ‘Don’t just do something- sit there!’” Ethan is most looking forward to having the opportunity to play and hang out with like-minded people at AMS.
