Savannah Music Festival LIVE 1016 – Leyla McCalla

Leyla McCalla is an American musician of Haitian descent, who first became known for her work with the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Since leaving that group in 2012, she has been working to develop her own personal approach to music that encompasses her Haitian roots, American folk, Louisiana roots and gospel, along with jazz and classical music. Leyla sings, plays cello, tenor banjo and guitar, and her music is earthy, elegant, soulful and witty. In this episode, we listen to her SMF 2017 performance on a co-bill with the Haitian mizik rasin group, Chouk Bwa Libeté.
