Since 2003, the Savannah Music Festival has grown a music education program that is unlike that of any arts organization in the region. It is rooted in our belief that the arts are fundamental to the cognitive, affective, physical and intellectual development of all children. These programs reach more than 20,000 youth each year throughout Savannah and the surrounding five counties.

Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell with Richard Thompson Electric Trio

About the performance

Long celebrated as a discoverer and interpreter of other artists' songs, 12-time GRAMMY winner Emmylou Harris has, in the last decade, gained admiration as much for her eloquently straightforward songwriting as for her incomparably expressive singing. She has worked with a wide variety of artists, including Gram Parsons, Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, Roy Orbison, The Band, Mark Knopfler, Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Little Feat and Neil Young.
Rodney Crowell, another GRAMMY-winning artist with whom she has collaborated since the 70s, will join Emmylou Harris. Mr. Crowell is a Texas-born singer/songwriter whose songs have been recorded by an extensive list of artists including Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band, Rosanne Cash, Johnny Cash, Crystal Gayle and Waylon Jennings.

On the other half of the bill is Richard Thompson and his electric trio, a critically acclaimed songwriter and exceptional guitarist. Mr. Thompson was the recent recipient of a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award, and was named one of Rolling Stone Magazine's "Top 20 Guitarists of All Time" for his prowess as both an acoustic and electric guitar player. His music has been recorded by a wide variety of artists including Robert Plant, Elvis Costello, David Byrne, Los Lobos and Bonnie Raitt, and his live performances are known for their boundless wit and creativity.
