Since 2003, the Savannah Music Festival has grown a music education program that is unlike that of any arts organization in the region. It is rooted in our belief that the arts are fundamental to the cognitive, affective, physical and intellectual development of all children. These programs reach more than 20,000 youth each year throughout Savannah and the surrounding five counties.

Dr. John and the Nite Trippers

About the performance

Multiple GRAMMY award-winner Dr. John (a.k.a. Mac Rebennack) was inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame in 2011 for his lifetime contribution to the art form. His continuation of the New Orleans musical tradition, from his early writing and performance credits on classic recordings by Professor Longhair, Art Neville, Joe Tex and Frankie Ford., cemented his reputation as a New Orleans giant, and Rolling Stone Magazine recently praised Dr. John for returning to
his Crescent City roots, calling his latest recording "...the wildest record Rebennack has made in many years...full of muscled, vintage R&B grooves, fevered soloing, psychedelic arrangements and oracular mumbo jumbo." Be prepared for an evening filled with voodoo mysticism, funk, rhythm & blues, psychedelic rock and Creole roots.
