This musical feast features masterworks by Bach and Beethoven performed on original instruments by two of the finest young proponents of the idiom. British cellist and conductor Jonathan Cohen is well-known for his passion for chamber music and is an avid proponent of baroque opera and symphonic repertoire. He currently leads his orchestra, Arcangelo, and continues a close relationship with Les Arts Florissants, in which he recently collaborated with William Christie conducting performances of Dido and Aeneas (Netherlands Opera), Purcell's Fairy Queen (Opéra Comique and Brooklyn Academy New York) as well as a program of Gluck, Haydn and Mozart in London and Paris. SMF favorite Kristian Bezuidenhout combines an incredibly precise knowledge of period practice with an enthusiasm for recapturing what was in the composer's ears, resulting in a nuanced, inclusive and intimate feel where sheer beauty conquers all.

"[Cohen] combines an easy and soulful tone with incisive precision and agility."
-Gramophone
